Looking at your part in what happens in your life isn’t victim blaming. It’s taking responsibility.

Note: I’m not referring here to situations where people have experienced traumatic events beyond their control.

BUT! Let’s talk about the patterns that show up in our life

Most of them do begin with an initial instance of trauma – big or small.

Any experience that we interpret as unsafe causes our survival brain to fire up, and we then create beliefs, responses and behaviours that are intended to keep us safe.

Often however, our initial protective mechanisms become our limitations. They can even become our blind spots, that stop us from moving on from experiencing the same patterns over and over again.

I’m currently doing some deep diving into my own stuff, and taking a good honest look at my underlying patterns.

Most of us have things we’d rather were different in our life

But often there isn’t enough motivation to really put the work in. Until there is!

Even then, it can feel difficult or next to impossible to clear our old patterns, right?

As I often tell my clients (and myself), patterns that’ve been around for YEARS are going to take time to unravel.

Most of us need time to deal with that level of deep change and the healing processes required. Geez it’d be nice if it was over and done with in the blink of an eye.

But if it was that easy…would you have learned anything?

Would you have been able to consciously process what was needed to make that shift?

Conscious awareness of what’s going on in your life, what you do and have done to contribute to the patterns of mistakes/suffering etc that keep cropping up, is essential to stop the repetition.

Yes, we can heal the body, diffuse your emotions, calm your neuro-endocrine system and more. BUT your own conscious understanding of what’s going on and why…is crucial.

And this is what I mean by taking responsibility

Owning your own part, your actions, your fears, thoughts and beliefs. Seeing how they’ve played into your repeating patterns. And coming to an understanding of why that is.

All of this will help you to free yourself from doing the same things over and over again.
