Have you ever considered that your body and mind are connected as opposed to distinct and unrelated?
For some folks, it’s a no-brainer (pardon the pun) that body and mind are not separate.
But there are still plenty of people who find this idea incomprehensible. 🙂
So let me tell you a little personal story…
Recently, I developed a weird localised numb spot on the tip of my left thumb – a spot about the size of a 5c piece. Nowhere else!
It began as pins and needles before eventually becoming totally numb.
At first, I’d no idea what could be going on. I thought of the physical possibilities – carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve impingement.
But I didn’t have time to investigate until a week or two after the onset of my symptoms.
As an aside… how common is that?
We get all sorts of odd little issues going on in our body, but instead of working out what the body is trying to tell us, we put up with it!
In my case, my thumb numbness wasn’t painful or causing any issues other than an odd sensation, so it wasn’t a priority to resolve ASAP.
That said, I know all too well the body communicates via physical pain, sensations and illness. So I didn’t want to leave it too long.
Investigating the case of the Numb Thumb
Finally, I had a relatively free Sunday where I could dedicate some time to my thumb!
Whenever there’s a mystery such as this, my go-to reference for connecting physical issues to mental/emotional/spiritual is the awesome book: Metaphysical Anatomy by Evette Rose.
I found a very apt paragraph in the section on Numbness:
You have been a part of a relationship or circumstances that caused a great deal of stress and had to rely on people you fear for support.
This was super, super accurate and relevant for me.
I then I did some self-healing work to understand the specifics as they related to me. Once the awareness was clear and I didn’t need any more information, I began to use the Kinesiology protocols I work with on my clients, on myself.
And would you believe it, the feeling started coming back into my finger tip!
As the relevant stressors were brought into the light, and the appropriate protocols applied…seeya numbness!
Within days it was almost completely back to normal, and now it’s totally fine once again.
Now, if the body and mind are not interconnected, then how could this be possible?! 😉
Physical pain and illness are generally speaking, not just what we think it is
And personally I’m grateful to have the training and awareness to know how to support myself. That said, I also see my own practitioner too, because I can’t do everything for myself or see in to my blind spots.
Kinesiology and energy medicine are the bomb if you prefer holistic health solutions!
Much love,
