Self-love and self-worth

If there’s one thing I wish we taught in school to all children, it’s the importance of valuing ourselves, and being the love of our own lives.

Instead we have a mental and emotional pandemic of thinking we have little worth or value.

Most of us learn (from those around us) that pleasing others before we please ourselves is better. It really isn’t though, it’s dangerous to your wellbeing.

Taking care of your own needs, giving yourself the love, care and attention you deserve is the best way to make sure you’re getting what you need.

And if you’re meeting your own needs then you aren’t projecting that need onto someone else, hoping they will fix or save you.

This needs projection is something you’ll find in many of our tv shows and movies!

It seems to me that we’d set life up differently if we cared for our own hearts and feelings as our number 1 priority.

We’d choose differently in love relationships and friendships.

We’d possibly even make different career choices.

And without a doubt we’d put up with a whole lot less crap!

However it takes some of us half our lives to discover the value of being in a loving relationship with ourselves. For others, that awareness doesn’t ever come.

But this is my wish for you on Valentines Day

Become the person who loves you most of all. The one who’s got your back 100%.

The one who will never betray you or abandon you.

The one who approves of you and supports you.

Be all of that for yourself, because you can.

Much love,
